Daimler Truck Service Centre is located in Darra, Brisbane, QLD, and is one of the largest truck and commercial vehicle repair shops in Australia. Heavy floods in 2022 caused significant damage to the existing premises, and in addition, the service centre had outgrown its capacity, therefore, Daimler decided to spend more than $35 million on constructing a larger truck service centre. The new repair centre covers 9,500 square metres of covered area, incorporating 36 service stations, two 29m inspection pits, a 5-tonne crane, an integrated spares department and an outdoor yard with 126 truck parking spaces. The centre repair and services brands including Freightliner, Fuso, and Mercedes Benz.
Pipe Infrastructure Capabilities
The plumbing contractor installed Surepress stainless steel 316L pipe and fittings for the project’s water, oil, and gas services. Approximately 1.2km (1,200 m) of pipe and fittings in sizes ranging from 15mm – 108mm were used. This included stainless steel gas pressfit fittings, which are certified to DVGW G260 & DVGW G 5614 standards, are suitable for 5 bar of pressure and broad temperature range. The final fit out was awarded Daimler’s Elite Support Certification, awarded by an independent assessor.
Challenges and Solutions
The post pandemic labour market is tight, and many plumbing contractors finding it challenging to find suitable skilled labour to install piping systems, and when they do it comes with a large price tag.
